We were hired to photograph the first two print ads of a campaign for the Duramed Futures Tour by the San Diego agency NYCA. This campaign was a great fit for us as the plan was to use real locations near one of the tour stops and real athletes.
The campaign’s theme, “Playing For My Life,” was designed to create buzz about the Duramed Futures Tour, which has low awareness even among avid golfers, by portraying the unique stories of the players themselves who are preparing for the LPGA tour.
We shot two separate ads, one at a laundromat and one at a gas station. Both were intended to give the viewer a glimpse into what these ladies go through while on the road playing golf. The laundromat was pretty simple to find. Getting in contact with the owner was exciting but the real challenge was finding the right filling station.
A few weeks before the shoot we scouted what felt like every road in Lafayette, Louisiana looking for a gas station with the feel NYCA Art Director Dave Huerta was looking for. We were getting a little desperate on our last night there when we approached the glow of Sammy’s Country Store. We got out of our rental car, took a quick look around and knew we had found our location.
On the early morning shoot day we were saved by our Sprint wireless internet card. When the caterer didn’t show because of an emergency health problem, and the local producer suggested McDonald’s for breakfast, we used it to find a decent restaurant nearby and map out directions for our clients.
Local friend and photographer Jimmy DeFlippo came along from Orlando and was our third set of eyes and hands.
