Savoring the Birdies in Minnesota with Matty G for Golf Digest Magazine

Golf Digest kicked a gem of an assignment our way and sent us to Eric’s homeland, Minnesota, where we photographed four of the top 100 public courses in the US. We spent five epic days with Sr. Travel Editor, former Director of Photography, and friend . . . Matt Ginella.

We started our journey 12 miles from where Eric was born, in the town of Biwabik, pop. 950. The day we were scheduled to photograph the Quarry, Eric’s cousin was there playing in a high school tournament. It was meant to be.

There was also some canoing, Walleye fishing and Caribbean food involved. None of which were disagreeable. By the way, DO stop at the Whistling Bird for a meal if you ever find yourself hungry in the Gilbert, Minnesota area. As Ginella writes, it’s “a square peg in a round hole.” Don’t question it! The jerk pork tenderloin is unreal.

Unfortunately, during the course of the 5-day trip, we picked up Matt’s habit of speaking in golf metaphors. All in all the journey was a real double eagle. See some of the images and read Ginella’s full story here.
