
Just as we learned of the South African double-amputee sprinter, Oscar Pistorius, fighting for the right to try out for the Olympics, we got to meet one of the developers that make it possible for a man with no legs to run 400 meters in 46 seconds.
A cool clear morning provided us with great light and a perfect blue background. Kevin Carroll, vice president of prosthetics for Hanger Prosthetics & Orthotics, and his friend Cameron Clapp, who lost both legs and an arm after being hit by a train, met us before sunrise on a local track.
Though doctors told Clapp’s family that he would probably be bound to a wheel chair we saw otherwise. Clapp’s spirit operating Carroll’s tools is s a sprinting combination. We agree with Carroll that it’s a great thing that limbless athletes are even close to qualifying for the Olympics. Read the full article in TIME.
