We spent late August and early September touring parts of Italy and visiting with family there. We started with all the major sights of Rome and worked our way up to Umbria, Tuscany’s less-popular little sister. In Rome we felt more local by renting a little house in the Trastevere area and in Umbria we had the opportunity to enjoy a relative’s amazing hill-top villa.
Eating gelatto, pasta and pizza was, of course, our primary objective. Trying to speak in Italian and navigating from site to site provided great mental exercise, team building opportunities and an excuse to drink more wine. After a few glasses your perception is that your Italian is better and getting lost on the way home is even easier.
We also took some time to make some travel imagery, focusing mainly on long exposures. We used a 10-stop neutral density filter to make images like this one of the Trevi fountain. Long exposures are a great way to keep the human element present but fluid. Click here to view the images in our archive.
Thanks to Bruce and Addie Wolfe our gracious hosts in Umbria.
