We spent late August and early September touring parts of Italy and visiting with family there. We started with all the major sights of Rome and worked our way up to Umbria, Tuscany’s less-popular little sister. In Rome we felt more local by renting a little house in the Trastevere area and in Umbria we had the opportunity to enjoy a relative’s amazing hill-top villa.

After getting his first heart transplant at age 12, Erik Compton focused everything on becoming a golf professional. Unfortunately transplants don’t last forever and last year, at age 27, he suffered a major heart attack while fly fishing. As Compton drove himself to the emergency room he called family and friends to say goodbye. Doctors were able to stabilize him, but his weakened heart would need to be replaced once again. On May 20, 2008, Erik received a second transplant, and now he is doing things he never thought possible, including becoming a father. We got to spend some time with him making images for Golf World.

We were honored to document the nuptials of our good friends Yvonne Lai and Adam Spangler, of Manhattan, at the Four Seasons Resort in Lana’i, Hawaii. Around 40 guests were witness to an elegant a cliff-side ceremony overlooking the ocean.

The event was characterized by the smiles of close friends and family enjoying each other’s company and the natural beauty of Hawaii. Between great snorkeling, golf and the amazing spa there was plenty to do on the days adjacent to the wedding.
